High-quality products
Feather and down
from Anseres, Anatidaes (geese, ducks, eider ducks) and Cygnopsis
cygnoides are the best for filling. These species serve as a reference
for qualitative assessment.
Genetics
and farming systems:
In the most advanced farms, artificial insemination
and crossbreeding have allowed farmers to select breeds that are
best suited to produce plumage, meat or both.
Feeding:
The quality of the plumage can be influenced by such
factors: vitamins, trace elements, mineral salts.
Place of origin
and climate:
Usually, cold weather is ideal to enhance the size
and quality of down. Presently, producer countries are Hungary,
Romania, Poland, Yugoslavia, France, Ireland, Canada and Italy.
However most of the material, primarily duck down, comes from the
South East, with China ranking first in the world.
Industrial washing
and sorting process:
The industrial treatment of feather and down can
influence the final yield and the quality of the product.
