Quality in practice
How
can we recognise a high-quality filled product? Some simple tests
will help you assess the quality:
Weight testing:
The volumes being equal, the higher the quality of
the filling material, the lighter the product (about 100-150 gr.
for a waistcoat, 250-300 gr. for a jacket, 250 gr. per square meter
for quilts).
Compressibility testing:
If a top-quality filling material is compressed,
it expands more quickly than a second-rate one. Quills (the stiff
parts of feathers) should not be felt by touch.
Fabric testing:
High-quality
fabrics (cotton or synthetics) have a tight weave in order to be
dust- and down-proof. Weight and thickness too must be appropriate
to the type of filling not to modify its qualities.
